SANDUSKY — It happened at the final Sandusky City Commission meeting of the year. In a 7-0 vote, commissioners approved the most ambitious waterfront project in modern history: the redevelopment of Battery Park.

It’s been decades since Battery Park has had a redesign, and many local residents complained it had become a place where streets and empty parking lots meet. (Photo provided)

Ordinance No. 25-310 isn’t just a dry piece of legislation; it’s a green light for a $2.9 million infrastructure build-out that will permanently change the face of the city’s shoreline. The measure approved by commissioners has 33 pages of detailed plans, from parking lots to boat basins.
