All's not lost for Sandusky's oldest condemned home
Look-back, look now comparison of city's housing stock due next month
SANDUSKY — In the city, 21 homes are condemned: 12 are rated uninhabitable; nine more are in the “red zone,” meaning they are unsafe to enter, according to the city’s condemned residential structure list.
One home, at 325 Reese Street has been on the list since 2019, condemned for being “unsanitary.” Another one, at 221 Reese on the list for about one year, also is classified as unsanitary.
“I reviewed the file for 325 Reese today,” Craig Ward, the city’s code compliance officer told StayTunedSandusky.com. “Long story short with this property is that the owner of the property is deceased and has been for roughly 10 years. When the owner passed away there was no estate and the bank still has never foreclosed on the property.”
The city has been attempting to work with the bank for some time to get the property transferred out from the deceased owner’s name. Ward said the bank responded that it is attempting to foreclose and that there are prospective buyers interested in the property.
