PERKINS TWP. — Police have identified the man found deceased in a muddy field off East Perkins Avenue earlier today as Craig Dawes, 66.
Assistant Perkins Police Chief Martin Curran said Dawes was a resident of township. The investigation is in its early stages, he said. A family member reported Dawes missing this morning, at the time his body was discovered.
The Discovery The body was discovered by a passing motorist who spotted Dawes in a field and alerted dispatch. Curran said the area is a farm field, recently plowed and consisting mostly of “dirt and mud.”
Investigation Status When asked about the possibility of foul play, the department is currently remaining cautious.
“At this time... that is still under investigation,” Curran said. “We’re waiting for the cause of death to be determined by the coroner’s office in Lucas County.”
What We Know Now:
No Public Threat: Police stated there is currently no known threat to the public.
Evidence: While items were collected at the scene, Kern cautioned that it is unclear if they are related to the death, noting that debris often blows into the open field.
Next Steps: An official cause of death is pending results from the Lucas County Coroner.
