Coach kept job after student massages and 'Sports Bra' practices
Girls Don't Matter Part 3: Huron Schools staff ignored problem for two years, never investigated, according to report
HURON — For years, the Huron city school district has maintained that it takes every step necessary to protect students. But buried on page 24 of a newly released investigative report is proof of a two-year gap where red flags weren’t just ignored—they were filed away.
That small detail in the report by Venice Solutions Group, an employment consulting firm hired by the school board to investigate sexual harassment complaints against staff members, concerns an August 2019 complaint from a parent who notified the district of alarming behavior by then-girls soccer coach Ryan Manner. The allegations included:
Giving members of the girls’ soccer team massages.
Forcing the team to play “shirts vs. skins,” leaving the “skins” team to play in only sports bras.
Giving a player a “piggyback ride” while inappropriately cupping her.
Engaging in inappropriate text and social media communications with students.
