U.S. Marcy Kaptur's 9th District would become more Republican than ever
COLUMBUS — Democrats might vote for a gerrymandered Congressional map this morning to avoid a worse fate for the party if responsibility for drawing up new maps reverts to the GOP dominated Ohio Legislature.
If they do, Ohio’s 9th District, which includes Sandusky, would become the most gerrymandered district in the state, stretching from the eastern border of Erie County to the northwest corner of the state.
The new 9th District Republican leaders on the Ohio Redistricting Commission introduced Thursday removes Sandusky County, and adds Putnam and Paulding counties, giving the district a stronger Republican base. Putnam and Paulding counties are closer to Fort Wayne, Indiana, than they are to Sandusky.
The Rooster, an Ohio-based blog, and Punchbowl both first reported about the potential compromise.
