Former state Rep. Derek Merrin made his national debut in Dallas Thursday evening, speaking before the Republican National Committee’s Midterm Convention.
The 9th District Republican nominee running against incumbent U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, D-Toledo, provided standard party talking points in the stump speech, complaining that Kaptur has been in Congress longer than he’s been alive, suggesting she cares “more about her career and her power than solving problems for the American people.”
The speech included the standard claims about Democrats, hitting on the hot buttons issues Merrin and his backers, including Trump, hope will motivate Trump’s base to “show up in November.”
Merrin sticks to talking points
“I want to send a message home to the people watching at home. America’s the greatest country in the history of the world,” Merrin said during his 5-minute speech. “Let’s fight to keep it. Let’s give President Trump the mass in congress he needs to keep our comm safe to keep our borders secure and keep America great.”
