NORWALK — The 2021 death of 76-year-old Doug Reer Sr., ruled a suicide by the Huron County coroner, still fuels deep suspicion among family members who believe he was murdered. Their concerns are rooted in the fact that investigating deputies with the Huron County sheriff failed to follow standard procedure, resulting in the destruction of nearly all physical evidence at the scene

The closed investigation’s records reveal a pattern of negligence by the same leadership team — Sheriff Todd Corbin and his cousin, Det. Sgt. Shannon Lyons — who botched the investigation into the 2017 disappearance of Amanda Dean. That’s not where the similarities end, raising serious questions about the professional conduct of both Corbin and Lyons.
