NORWALK — For years, the official story of Amanda Dean’s disappearance was built on a single phone call. A call that Huron County Sheriff Todd Corbin claimed happened in July 2017. A call—allegedly made to a domestic violence shelter director—who told him Amanda was safe, alive, and simply didn’t want to be found.

That one “ghost call” was enough for the Sheriff to walk away. It was enough to leave Amanda’s sons wondering—for six years—why their mother abandoned them. It also was enough to keep Fred Reer Jr. a free man.

As it turns out, the call may have never happened.

No paper trail

Information recently developed reveals a devastating fracture in the official narrative. Sources familiar with the matter indicate that state investigators—finally looking into the case years too late—interviewed employees at the very shelter Corbin cited in his 2017 report.
