SANDUSKY — The city’s ex officio mayor and his family have been in the sign business for years. Visitors walking our downtown can see that for themselves on three prominent buildings that display “blade” signage for their businesses.
The city will soon have a new landmark on its waterfront—in the form aof a donation from the Brady family—through their company Brady Signs. City commission voted Monday to accept a permanent “Sandusky” sign to be installed at the north end of the Jackson Street Pier this fall.
“I want to thank former City Commission President Dick Brady and the Brady family for such a generous donation to the city,” said City Manager John Orzech. “This new sign will make the Jackson Street Pier an even more iconic location on our waterfront. It will undoubtedly be a popular landmark and a favorite photo spot for residents and visitors for years to come.”
The new sign, featuring the iconic Sandusky script logo, will be about 20 feet in length and each letter will be about four feet high. An iconic “Sandusky” sign on the Jackson Street Pier was part of the vision for the space since the pier’s renovation was first planned nearly a decade ago.
“Great cities are built over generations by people who care deeply about their community,” said Dick Brady. “It is our family’s hope that this gift celebrates Sandusky’s remarkable renaissance and serves as a lasting symbol of community pride for residents and visitors for generations to come.”
The script featured on the sign was developed by the Greater Sandusky Partnership in 2023 as part of the Sandusky brand identity created for the Destination Sandusky program. Since then, the script has grown into a visual identity for the city, appearing on downtown pole banners, merchandise, and a growing list of locations around town.
“This sign brings the Sandusky brand to life in a new way, said McKenzie Spriggs, Senior Director of Destination Management at the Greater Sandusky Partnership. “Since its introduction, we’ve seen the script Sandusky show up on social media, banners, hats, and now on the Jackson Street Pier. Seeing the Brady family invest in bringing it into a physical, iconic space is exactly the kind of community pride we dreamed of.”
The sign is being built to withstand the wind and weather off the lake, with the Brady family covering the full cost of design, materials, fabrication, and installation. Once it’s in place, the City of Sandusky will take over its care and upkeep.
