Family: Katelynn Shepard's death was not an accident
Huron County sheriff's office undermines efforts to get justice
NORWALK — The Huron County sheriff and deputies have reasons for actively sabotaging a legitimate investigation into the 2018 death of Katelynn Shepard, according to advocate Tracy Thom.
“It’s the same as Amanda Dean,” Thom said. “Deputies didn’t do their jobs when they knew Katelynn was being groomed. She was just 14, back then. It was happening right under their noses. When she was killed seven years later they didn’t want to investigate because they knew they would be found out.”
Sheriff Todd Corbin didn’t investigate Amanda’s disappearance, according to Thom, because he knew deputies should have arrested Fred Reer after he assaulted Dean just months before he killed her in July 2017.
“That was the last time the sheriff asked for the state’s help and he got himself investigated for not investigating a homicide,” Thom said. “It doesn’t take a genius to figure out why he’s not asking for help on this one.”
