Fighting for their homes in Huron

Some condo owners not happy about $1,000 monthly fees and $20,000 assessments

HURON — The good life at Beachwood Villas along the lake front might be fading fast, as its aging facilities need expensive repairs and monthly maintenance fees are skyrocketing.

There’s also a boondoggle, according to some owners who live at the upscale private community on the city’s east side, designed to force out longtime Huron residents and replace them with an international set of owners more capable of paying $1,000 or more in monthly fees on top of mortgage payments.

For older residents at the Villas, their mortgages were paid off years ago but the tripling of fees in just the last three years and an impending $20,000 assessment for each unit owner to shore up the Villas’ marina has created a stress level in the air that you can cut with a knife.

They are fighting back.

“We are writing to you collectively as residents of Beachwood Villas Condominium, remaining anonymous at this time due to documented patterns of verbal and physical retaliation by the board, the management company and the board’s law firm,” the residents wrote in a letter mailed Saturday to StayTunedSandusky.com via the U.S. Postal Service. “This letter serves as a formal request for journalistic investigation into significant financial, structural, and ethical concerns within our community.”
