City approves moving forward with sandy plans for Lions Park waterfront
SANDUSKY — City commission took Ione giant step forward in bringing a public beach and restored wetlands back to Sandusky Bay.
Commissioners approved a professional design services agreement with SmithGroup to lead the detailed design and permitting phase for the Lions Park Shoreline Restoration Project.
The design contract, capped at $250,000, advances plans to stabilize nearly 950 feet of bayfront shoreline that has suffered severe erosion from high water levels and wave action over the last decade.
Investing in city’s future
Restoration of Lions Park began more than two decades ago, spearheaded by Commissioner Dave Waddington. Waddington was there Monday, on commission, voting in for it.
Outside grant funding covers 90% of the design costs:
