GROTON TWP. — A 72-year-old man died Saturday after the vehicle he was driving veered off Knauss Road traveling several hundred feet into a farm field before coming to a stop in a ditch.
“The vehicle’s OnStar system alerted 9-1-1 to the accident and pinpointed the vehicle’s location,” Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said.
Deputies and an EMT squad responded to the scene and they were able to find the vehicle and extract him from it.
“They began CPR right and he was taken to Bellevue Hospital. Unfortunately he passed away,” the sheriff said.
The man was a Huron Township resident, is suspected of having suffered a medical event prior to driving off the road, Sigsworth said. His family is being notified of his death.
