In a high-stakes Senate roll call that highlighted the political risks facing Republicans ahead of the midterm elections, Sen. Jon Husted voted Thursday to defeat a War Powers resolution aimed at halting President Donald Trump’s military operations in Iran—just days after publicly arguing that the war must end to relieve pressure on Ohio energy and gas prices.
The resolution failed by a single vote, 49 to 50. Four Republicans—Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Rand Paul of Kentucky, and Thom Tillis of North Carolina—broke ranks to support the measure, alongside almost the entire Democratic caucus.
