PORT CLINTON — A $360,000 aluminum patrol boat purchased by the Ottawa County Sheriff's Office through a federal grant program was recovered this weekend after it was found fully submerged at Gem Beach Marina.
Eric Journeyman:
They didn’t check on the batteries so the bilge pump never kicked on. It rained and the hull filled up with water. That’s my bet.
Steve Harris:
Why is this on a PIB page? Happened on the mainland, right?
David Whitt:
They forgot to turn off the water. Hate it when that happens.
Bob Hennig:
Better bring in an outside investigator — nobody is talking.
Jim Menke:
Total BS by incompetent people!
Mike Gordon:
Think Coast Guard will fine them? Maybe next time put the drain plug in it before you launch.
Kyle Krieger:
Shit happens. The boat is fine. Must be a slow news day.
Paul Harper:
The boat patrol has sooooo much experience. They should pay someone to run the boat and take care of it.
Angeline Gallardo:
Heard they were having issues with the bilge pump.
Bart Barry:
I’m willing to bet this boat has storage compartments in the floor that filled with rainwater. That added weight and caused the vessel to sink enough to get the scuppers below the waterline — and when that happened, down she went. I’ve seen it before in heavy rains.
Hector Loera:
Hope it’s insured — that’s a lot of $.
