Measles case at Put-in-Bay Schools confirmed
Health Department tracking anyone who might have had contact with student
PUT-IN-BAY — A Put-in-Bay Schools student has been diagnosed with measles, according to a letter the school district sent to parents.
“We are working closely with the Ottawa County Health Department to follow all recommended public health protocols,” the letter from district Superintendent Scott Mangus states. “At this time we are identifying individuals who may have been in contact with the student while they were potentially contagious.”
Families who may have exposure will be contacted with additional guidelines if necessary, the letter states.
Measles is a highly contagious viral illness. Symptoms usually appear 7-14 days after exposure and may include fever; cough; runny nose; red or watery eyes; a rash that typically begins on the face and spreads downward across the body.
The letter instructs any families who suspect a child or other family member has been exposed or develops symptoms should:
Stay at home
Contact your healthcare provider before visiting a medical office
Inform the school if the person is a student
