Membership fee plan for new city fitness center comes due
City planning an announcement
SANDUSKY — As Sandusky prepares to open its new 38,000-square-foot recreation center next year, community excitement is paired with lingering questions about operations, space, and user costs.
Those topics have been kept out of news releases and public meetings after some initial discussion immediately following the citywide vote in November 2023 approving an operating levy for a new center.
StayTunedSandusky.com has pushed for answers more recently, however, from Sandusky City Manager John Orzech and recreation department staff without success. That push might have netted some success—or by coincidence—helped break through that wall of silence. On Thursday, City Commission President Kate Vargo attended a recreation committee meeting, where the topic was finally discussed at length for the first time in more than two years.
