Longtime Democratic incumbent Rep. Marcy Kaptur released formal statements across both her official congressional and campaign platforms on September 11, commemorating the nearly 3,000 lives lost in 2001 and praising the sacrifice of first responders. Kaptur’s messages focused on national unity, civic obligation, and honoring victims of the terrorist attacks.
In contrast, Republican challenger Derek Merrin’s public social media channels remained silent regarding the milestone anniversary on September 11. Instead, Merrin’s recent digital posts focused entirely on campaign messaging, promoting his speech at a Republican convention and criticizing Kaptur’s legislative record.
