NORWALK — Two Fremont residents were killed Friday in a two-vehicle collision involving a three-wheeled motorcycle in Seneca County, state troopers reported.
The fatal crash occurred at shortly before 3 p.m. Friday at State Route 18 and County Road 26 in Hopewell Township.
Hadiya Batts, 29, of Tiffin, was driving a westbound 2015 Ford Taurus on County Road 26 when she failed to yield at a posted stop sign at State Route 18, according to a report from the Norwalk Highway Patrol post.
Batts’ sedan was struck by a northwest-bound 2015 Harley-Davidson Freewheeler operated by Ronald Kuyken, 74, of Fremont. Kuyken suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, Susan Kuyken, 65, also of Fremont, was transported by ambulance to Mercy Health – Tiffin Hospital, where she later died.
Troopers said neither Ronald nor Susan Kuyken was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. Batts, who was wearing a seat belt, sustained minor injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
Emergency responders closed the intersection and surrounding roadways for about two hours to conduct an initial scene investigation and clear debris.
The crash remains under active investigation by the State Highway Patrol.
