Neighborhood center for decades, building's future undetermined
City says owner has plans for 805 Hayes Avenue
SANDUSKY — The property 805 Hayes Ave. stands in testament to the city’s working class neighborhoods, anchored by small mixed-use centers where businesses served local families, face to face, neighbor to neighbor.
This one, where Hayes meets Columbus Avenue, Campbell Street, West Park and East Park streets, has been vacant for awhile. In December, the city issued an order condemning the property.
The “Notice, Order and Pending Order of Demolition” was posted Dec. 18, 2024.
“It essentially provides the owners the option(s) to repair the structure, demolish the structure on their own or the city would demolish it,” Sandusky chief building official Scott Thom told StayTunedSandusky.com. “We did receive plans for the repairing and partial demolition of the structure and are still working with the owner on the repair timeline.”
