NORWALK — A out-of-state criminal suspect wanted by Michigan authorities was found dead of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound in a field just north of the Norwalk city limits.
According to the Norwalk Police Department, Michigan law enforcement notified local officers that an individual wanted for crimes in their jurisdiction was believed to have fled to the Norwalk area.
During the search, authorities located the individual deceased in an open field.
Because the body was discovered outside municipal boundaries, the local investigation has been turned over to the Huron County Sheriff’s Office.
Multiple agencies assisted in the search and emergency response, including the Bellevue Police Department, the Huron and Erie County Sheriff’s Offices, the Norwalk Fire Department, North Central EMS, and the Huron County Prosecutor’s Office.
Authorities have not yet released the suspect’s identity or the specific charges being investigated out of Michigan.
