SANDUSKY - Ohio residents who want to better understand a proposed electric rate increase will have an opportunity to hear directly from the state's consumer advocates during a public forum hosted by Serving Our Seniors.
Make a reservation
Time: 10:30–noon on July 30 at the downtown Erie County Office Building, 247 Columbus Ave. in Sandusky.
The forum will explain the role of the Ohio Consumers' Counsel as it challenges FirstEnergy's request before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) for a multi-year electric rate increase.
Under FirstEnergy's proposal, electric bills would increase each year for three years. By the third year, the average Ohio Edison residential customer is projected to pay an additional $12.78 per month.
Featured speakers include:
Maureen Willis, Ohio Consumers' Counsel and Agency Director
Angela O'Brien, Deputy Consumers' Counsel and Legal Director
Amy Carles, Senior Outreach and Education Program Specialist
The panel will explain the proposed rate increase, discuss the Ohio Consumers' Counsel's role in representing residential utility customers, and answer questions from the audience.
The discussion will be moderated by Sue Daugherty, Director of Serving Our Seniors.

Serving Our Seniors has also invited FirstEnergy to participate in a separate public forum to explain the company's justification for the proposed rate increase. If FirstEnergy accepts the invitation, that forum will be announced and held at a later date.
This program is intended to help consumers better understand how utility rate cases affect their electric bills and how Ohio's consumer advocate represents residential customers before the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio.
If you'd like, I can also adapt this into a more conversational Substack post with a stronger opening hook and call to action to encourage attendance.
