Perkins police say student porn video being shared across region
Investigators say kids in Perkins, Edison, Sandusky, Huron, Clyde, Bellevue and Margaretta school districts received it
PERKINS TWP. — Police are investigating the circulation of a sexually explicit video involving local students that has spread across multiple school districts.
Perkins Township Police said they have identified both the student who obtained and distributed the video and the student who originally created it. Charges are expected.
According to police, a 14-year-old Edison Schools student accessed the Snapchat account of a 16-year-old Perkins student without authorization and obtained the video. The video was originally made and sent by an 18-year-old Perkins student to the 16-year-old girl, investigators said.
“This sexually explicit video was being shared by multiple people and sent to multiple juveniles throughout multiple schools,” Perkins police said in a news release. Juveniles in several districts including Perkins, Edison, Sandusky, Huron, Clyde, Bellevue and Margaretta, were sharing the video.
“This is a criminal matter by each individual that shares this type of video with a juvenile,” the department said in a public statement.
Police warning to families
The department said one of its main concerns now is education — making sure students and parents understand the risks and consequences of their online behavior.
“We can’t emphasize enough with students that they should never allow or provide other students their login and passwords for their social media accounts,” the statement said.
Parents are being urged to talk openly with children about online safety, what they post or share, and the serious repercussions that can follow.
At Perkins Schools, police school resource Officer Jake Marsinick is available to answer questions, according to the news release.
