Police: Hundreds shared student's porn; only two face charges
Video stolen from girl's phone and shared across region
PERKINS TWP. —
Police Detective Joseph Rotuno wants to set the record straight about a scandal that has rocked area schools.
“No one’s covering anything up here,” Rotuno told StayTunedSandusky.com on Friday. “The facts are the facts. We had an 18-year-old who made a video, sent it to a 16-year-old. That 16-year-old saved it. A 14-year-old got into her account, pulled the video, and then it spread like wildfire.”
The “wildfire” was fast and massive. According to Rotuno, the explicit video was shared “hundreds and hundreds” of times across at least five school districts — Perkins, Edison, Huron, Bellevue, Clyde, and possibly more.
“Every time those kids were sharing that video, they were committing a crime,” Rotuno said. “But we’re not looking to put criminal charges on 16- and 17-year-old kids making stupid mistakes. They need to stop it. That’s what’s most important now.”
