'Pretti Good': Majewski makes vile play on words as ICE deaths mount
Ohio Rep. Gary Click also promoting Trump administration's questionable narrative that protestors provoked agents
TOLEDO — A day after a second 37-year-old American citizen was killed in Minneapolis during a federal immigration enforcement action, former 9th District candidate J.R. Majewski took to Facebook to mock the victims.
“Is it too soon,” Majewski wrote above photos of Renee Good and Alex Pretti. The header over the images read “How’s ICE Doing?” while the caption below—”Pretti Good”—puns the names of two citizens now dead at the hands of federal agents.
The post comes as Minneapolis reels from the killing of Pretti, a VA intensive care nurse and lawful gun owner, who was shot Saturday after filming agents and attempting to assist a woman during an enforcement “surge.” Good, a mother of three, was shot three times by an ICE agent on Jan. 7 while sitting in her car.
Referendum on enforcement
Majewski, the 2022 GOP nominee, did not immediately respond to questions about the post. However, his commentary signals a shift in the Republican primary for U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur’s seat, which is increasingly becoming a referendum on federal power and ICE tactics.
The primary field now includes:
Madison Sheahan: The former Deputy Director of ICE who resigned just days ago to launch her bid. Sheahan, a protege of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, is running on her record as an “enforcement executive.”
Josh Williams: A state representative from Sylvania Township currently supported by Majewski.
Derek Merrin: The former state legislator who nearly unseated Kaptur in 2024.
Alea Nadeem, Wayne Charles Kinsel, and Anthony Bruce Campbell.
War of narratives
While bystander videos from Minneapolis appear to show agents attacking both victims—with video of the Pretti incident showing him holding a phone, not a weapon—the Trump administration and its allies are pushing a narrative of provocation.
State Rep. Gary Click (R-Vickery) joined the fray this weekend, re-posting unsubstantiated claims from Secretary Kristi Noem suggesting the victims forced the agents to use lethal force. These claims stand in stark contrast to the videos captured by witnesses, which show a “swarm” of agents wrestling Pretti to the ground before shots were fired.
Pressing for answers
StayTunedSandusky has reached out to local law enforcement and elected officials to ask how they would respond to similar federal “surges” in Erie County. We are specifically seeking clarity on whether local police would allow federal agents to block investigators from a shooting scene, as has reportedly happened in Minneapolis.
As the May 4 primary approaches, the 9th District is no longer just debating policy; it is debating the basic right of citizens to record public officials without being met with lethal force.
