Sandusky boy dead; cause remains under investigation
Autopsy found no signs of trauma
SANDUSKY — A 14-year-old boy died three days after EMTs and police found him unconscious inside a residence in the 1200 block of Hayes Avenue on Oct. 4.
The EMTs and officers responded at the home just after noon.
“The boy was found unresponsive and was immediately transported to a local hospital by emergency personnel. He was later transferred to University Hospitals Rainbow Babies and Children’s in Cleveland for further treatment,” a news release from police Chief Jared Oliver states. “Tragically, the juvenile passed away on Oct. 7.
An autopsy was conducted by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office. Preliminary findings indicate that the juvenile suffered a medical event that contributed to his death, according to police..
Detectives have been in contact with the Medical Examiner’s Office throughout the investigation.
“It has come to the attention of investigators that the juvenile was involved in a physical altercation with another male on or around Sept. 23. A video of this incident has been circulating on social media and has been provided to the Medical Examiner’s Office as part of the investigation,” Oliver wrote in the release.
Medical testing conducted during the juvenile’s hospitalization, as well as the autopsy, revealed no evidence of trauma or injuries that would have contributed to his death.
“This matter remains under active investigation pending the final autopsy report,” said Oliver.
