Sandusky cuts back fireworks days
Commissioners vote for change in city ordinance after 'avalanche of complaints about near-constant booms'
SANDUSKY — After years of complaints from residents about late-night noise, neighborhood safety, and damage from rogue fireworks, Sandusky city commissioners voted Monday to slash the number of days when fireworks can be legally set off inside city limits.
The new ordinance — passed unanimously on first reading — trims the list from more than a dozen holidays to just five dates. Commissioners say the move is a direct response to public feedback since the city first loosened its fireworks laws in 2022.
“This is a plague — and not just in Sandusky. Other communities are also struggling with it,” commissioner Dennis Murray Jr. said during the discussion. “Going forward, it will be up to us to be creative about how we enforce it.”
