Sandusky starts building Landing park
It's along the waterfront and it will be 'transformational,' city officials promise
SANDUSKY — The city took a big step forward this week with the groundbreaking of The Landing — a 27-acre waterfront park that promises to transform the relationship residents have with the Lake Erie shoreline.

The sheer audacity of it — that a 200-year-old city could develop a new, 27-acre park — along its waterfront — is remarkable. For a long time into the future, city commission and county leaders should never be faulted for not dreaming big.
The idea was hatched when former Cedar Fair Ltd. CEO Matt Ouimet was negotiating with county officials to build Sports Force Park at the former Griffing Airport property off Cleveland Road. Initially, Cedar Fair planned to lease the property from the county and build the center there, but ownership was later switched out with Cedar Fair owning and building on the property.
