Sheriff Todd Corbin: charges, what charges?
๐๐๐๐๐๐: Assistant Attorney General Dan Kasaris won't say what he's being investigated for, or if AG's office will seek indictments
NORWALK โ Sources inside the Huron County Sheriffโs office say administrative staff is quietly considering a succession plan in the event that Sheriff Todd Corbin is forced from office.
The Ohio Attorney Generalโs office acknowledged this week that Corbin is being investigated for the nearly 6-year delay before he ordered an investigation into the death of Amanda Dean in July 2017, and other potential misconduct.
The sheriff and his cousin, former Det. Sgt. Shannon Lyons, briefly investigated after Deanโs family reported her missing, but quit looking for Amanda the next day. For nearly six years they refused to help Deanโs family find Amanda. The sheriff was finally forced in late December 2022 to ask the state to investigate after news articles in the Sandusky Register about the familyโs growing frustration with Corbin generated backlash against the sheriffโs office and public pressure.
StayTunedSandusky has learned that Assistant Attorney General Daniel Kasaris, the special prosecutor who got Fred Reer convicted earlier this year for killing Dean in 2017, and state investigators have been given a list of allegations against Corbin and Lyons dating back to 2017, when Corbin became sheriff and Lyons, who was fired last year after getting convicted of a dereliction of duty charge, became the detective sergeant.
Corbin refused to release the disciplinary reports that led to Lyons getting convicted and then fired, but the Register has reported in the past that he was accused of domestic violence, falsifying time cards, theft and other issues from before and after he was made a deputy.
The source said they were unsure what charges, if any, the AG might be considering, but the number of allegations over the years suggests it could be an extensive list.
โข Obstruction, dereliction of duty, accessory (related to Amanda Deanโs murder)
โข Theft (money and a sword or machete stolen from a search warrant inventory)
โข Theft, domestic violence (old reports from Sandusky and Perkins police show Lyons was charged)
โข Evidence tampering
Daniel Kasaris did not respond to questions. Yost and his press office, also did not respond. Itโs not known if Kasaris has presented evidence, or if he plans to present evidence to a county grand jury.
Corbin and Lyons havenโt responded to questions from the press in three years.
