Standout: Erie County only county in Ohio to enact all three tax-lowering options
Local Homestead, Owner Occupancy, and Inside Mill Rollback: Qualifying seniors could save well over $1,000.
SANDUSKY — Erie County homeowners, particularly senior citizens, could see significant relief on their property tax bills next year, potentially saving upwards of $1,000 if they qualify for specific credits.
A recent analysis reveals that Erie County is one of only two counties in Ohio to enact all three available property tax credits: the Local Homestead Exemption, the Local Owner Occupancy Credit, and the Inside Mill Rollback.
This comprehensive approach to tax relief stands in stark contrast to the vast majority of Ohio’s 88 counties, where many residents will not benefit from similar property tax rollbacks or credits.
“We heard loud and clear that property taxes are too high,” said Erie County Commissioner Matt Old, who has led the charge for lowering taxes.
In addition to the two credits and the rollback, commissioners in 2025 and again for next year voted not to collect the county’s share of property taxes, reducing the tax bill for property owners by about $16 million over the two years.
