The Welcome Home Sandusky project is a collaborative effort aimed at increasing affordable homeownership opportunities in Sandusky, Ohio. Funding and development: The City of Sandusky received a $3.5 million grant through the Welcome Home Ohioprogram, which is part of a $100 million statewide initiative to enhance affordable housing across Ohio. The grant will facilitate the construction of 14 new single-family homes and support rehabilitation projects in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity.
Home specifications: Each home will feature over 1,300 square feet of living space, comprising three bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a front porch. The designs emphasize quality, durability, and aesthetic appeal, with four curated finish packages available to prospective buyers.

Additionally, applicants must be prequalified for a mortgage, commit to residing in the home for at least five years, and participate in a one-year financial literacy program provided by the project partners.
Project Timeline: Predevelopment activities are underway, with the first homes expected to be available in early 2025. The initiative aims to build more than 30 homes over the next 18 months, utilizing land from local land banks.
