SANDUSKY — State Rep. D.J. Swearingen shocked party leaders in three counties Tuesday when he abandoned his re-election campaign, dropping off a letter to the Erie County Elections Board withdrawing his candidacy in the 89th District.
The move set off a scramble in Erie, Ottawa and Huron counties—which make up the district. Swearingen told officials he was being considered for a “new role,” but he didn’t say what the position is, or who’s offering it to him. It not known if Swearingen intends to resign before the end of his term.
