What was before is again, at least as far as the 2026 Midterm election is concerned.
It’s been years since Ohio was considered a “swing state” able to tip the balance in determining the results of a national election. But in the span of less than a week, both President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance traveled to Ohio to stump for Republican candidates in tight races.
Trump rallied with supporters on Oct. 3 in Vandalia, Ohio, just north of Dayton, at the 4,500-seat Student Activity Center at Butler-Vandalia High School on South Dixie Road, where he was supportive of AI technologies and data centers.
On Friday Vance was in Lima with area Republicans, including GOP 89th House District candidate Caleb Stidham. He called U.S. Sen. Jon Husted “the man,” crediting hime with the administration’s top accomplishments, including no tax on tips.
“We can’t do all this amazing stuff without our amazing Congressional allies. People in the state were worried about making life affordable, how can our government make life more affordable?”
Vance called it “a crisis the Democrats left us.”
Vance joked that he planned to meet Democratic gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton at a bar later, alluding to Republican dark money attacks ads that have suggested Acton has a drinking problem.
He falsely claimed Acton required 2-years-olds to wear masks during the pandemic. He said she supports transgender athletes competing in Women’s sports, and encourages families to consider gender re-assignment surgery for children.
He said Democrats are lying about Husted, Trump and the entire Republican slate of candidates.
“Sherrod Brown’s voting record shows he’s not the kind of Democrat JFK was,” Vance said. “… The thing about Sherrod that annoys me most is when he says stands for working people,” condemning Brown’s failure to stop President Biden’s from “opening the border wide.”
Vance ended his speech saying Democrats hate this country.
Lima is in U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan’s 4th District. Jordan was not at Friday’s rally.
