Declining admissions and income tax revenue drive deficit, but healthy cash reserves keep municipal services stable

SANDUSKY — Municipal revenues through July are running nearly $1.57 million behind last year’s pace, driven by notable drops in income tax collections and summer tourism receipts, according to the city’s latest financial report.

Total General Fund revenue reached $16.51 million through July 31, representing 49% of expected collections for 2026. At the same point in 2025, the city had brought in $18.08 million.

To offset the revenue drag, city administrators have tightened purse strings. Year-to-date municipal expenditures stand at $17.13 million—down 6.9% compared to the $18.40 million spent through July 2025.
