HURON TWP. — A man visiting his wife, a patient at the Meadows at Osborn Park nursing home, likely killed her and then himself this morning.
Erie County Sheriff Paul Sigsworth said in a news release that deputies and an EMS squad were dispatched to the Meadows at about 11:30 this morning. The man was 75; his wife was 73. He had a handgun that he had concealed from the staff when he arrived at the facility, the release states.
At some point after he arrived and was visiting with his wife, nursing home staff heard the sound of what they believed were gunshots in the room. They went to the room and found the husband and wife both suffering from gunshot wounds.
Medical staff at the facility immediately rendered aid to both victims until paramedics arrived. The husband was transported to the ER at Firelands Regional Medical Center; where he later succumbed to his injury. His wife was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.
County Coroner Brian Baxter responded to the scene. Both victims will be autopsied at the Lucas County Coroner’s Office in Toledo. The investigation into this incident is ongoing.
