SANDUSKY — A local tow truck operator formerly favored by area police departments faces a slew of new charges related to a scheme to illegally gain title to motor vehicles.

An Erie County grand jury indicted Walt Kapiskosky on 16 new counts: tampering with records and theft. An earlier indictment charged Kapiskosky, owner of Walt’s Auto Repair on West Perkins Avenue, with engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity.

The indictment orders the forfeiture of money in checking and savings accounts held by Kapiskosky and three vehicles: a 2017 Ford F350, a 1992 GMC van and a 2017 Danco.

Kapiskosky would an indefinite sentence if he’s convicted. While the law presumes concurrent terms (roughly 3–11 years), the sheer number of charges allows a judge to ‘stack’ them consecutively, which could lead to a decades-long aggregate minimum term if the court finds the conduct warrants it.
