What's in the future for Mills School in Sandusky?
It's HQ for the city's recreation department and out-of-school programs, but a new rec center is coming
SANDUSKY — City commission is ready post the job description for the long awaited and much anticipated Sandusky community recreation center, future home for the city recreation department and the youth development and out-of-school programming at Mills School.
The Request For Proposal will be public Wednesday with a Nov. 13 deadline for finalized bids. Commission’s schedule for awarding the project is Dec. 8, meaning commissioners Dick Brady and Dennis Murray could be the deciding votes on how it will look going forward. Every commissioner could be a deciding vote, actually, since a clear consensus on commission is not apparent.
Brady called getting the project off the starting block “a big milestone” for commission. He and Murray are finishing their terms this year and they won’t be back in 2026. The city’s term limits law prevents both men from running for a fourth consecutive term. They were both elected in 2013.
