SANDUSKY — When she testified in her own defense at her fraud trial last month, Ashli Ford offered an explanation why someone might lie on the witness stand.

“If you’re not going to get in any trouble for lying, I’m sure you would be really comfortable doing it,” Ford said, explaining why she believed her former friend lied on the witness stand about a meeting they had in August 2022.

Ford testified her ex-husband was with her during that meeting at the city school district board offices on Decatur Street to sign real estate documents. Her former friend, who works for the board and is also a notary, testified that she never met with Ford’s ex-husband and did not witness him signing the documents.

In addition, Ford testified her ex-husband also lied on the witness stand about how he ended up financing the home where his ex-wife was living with her new husband, and about the circumstances of his split with Ford in 2019. The testimonies of her ex-husband and her ex-friend didn’t conflict at any point, and both testified they had still never met or spoken to each other.
