NEW HAVEN TWP. — A 74-year-old Willard man involved in a two-vehicle collision in Huron County on Sept. 16 died from the injuries he sustained, according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
The accident at State Route 61 and State Route 103 in New Haven Township happened at about 10:15 that morning.
Edwin Lynch, 74, of Willard, was eastbound on Route 103 in a 2018 Toyota Tundra when he failed to yield at a posted stop sign at the Route 61, according to the Patrol. Lynch’s vehicle entered the intersection and struck a northbound 2025 Mack Pinnacle semi-truck operated by Eric Smith, 35, of Mansfield.
Lynch suffered serious injuries in the impact. He was initially treated at the scene before being flown by Cleveland Metro Life Flight to Cleveland Metro Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Sunday.
Smith, the driver of the semi-truck, was not injured. State troopers said that both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash.
The intersection was closed for about an hour while emergency responders processed the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
