Woman arrested, suspect in hit-skip
Boy on bike was injured in Sept. 19 accident
SANDUSKY — A 60-year-old Sandusky woman was arrested Wednesday and charged with leaving the scene of an accident after police said she struck a boy on a bicycle at a city intersection last week and drove away.
According to a Sandusky police report, officers arrested Teresa A. Summers after locating her at a Venice Road residence. Investigators said Summers admitted being involved in a Sept. 19 crash at Perkins and Columbus Avenue, where her vehicle hit a boy riding a bike.
Summers told officers she did not realize she had struck anyone until she saw the boy get up and push his bike to the sidewalk. She said a bystander told her the boy was “okay,” so she left the scene.
Police later learned the boy lost a front tooth and required stitches on his lip. His mother told investigators he may also need surgery once swelling subsides, according to the report.
A traffic camera at the intersection captured an image of the vehicle Summers was driving. She was charged with felony leaving the scene of an accident and driving under suspension. Officers said her daughter, the vehicle’s owner, could also face a charge of wrongful entrustment. Police noted the car was uninsured.
Summers was taken to the Erie County Jail without incident.
