HURON — One woman commenting about news coverage of a new Title IX lawsuit against the Huron school district suggested everyone just move along, that there is nothing to see here.
“Old news. Yawn,” Judy Lykins wrote.
Another reader said the district should have been expecting this.
“Is anyone surprised?” Ryan Engel asked.
There was some skepticism in some of the commentary.
“Nobody believes the women or girls,” Beth Ann wrote.
But others suggested, too, that what’s detailed in the lawsuit — that student athletes were allowed to sexually harass and assault female students beginning in middle school — is nothing new.
“Since the 80s or what? My mom went through hell and so did I in that district,” Kaileigh Elizabeth wrote.
“Which time? Since mid 90s,” Christina Martinez responded.
Dawna Darlene commented that the problems in the district persist.
“Sad but true. If you did come from money kids was treated bad. So wonderful that the new school board is trying to to make change. But unfortunately some of us has already pulled kids out of the school. Trust me we see how wonderful our kids have succeeded.”
“So sad but not surprised unfortunately,” Christina Martinez responded.
